Liverpool Keen To Sign £20.5m La Liga Left-back, But Real Madrid Could Intervene

Liverpool are a number of clubs keeping a tab on Theo Hernandez of Atletico Madrid. The youngster was on loan at Deportivo Alaves this season and has done well at the Spanish club. His impressive performances for the club now seem to have ensured he does return to the capital where a battle would ensue for his services.

The French defender has been in inspired form for the club and even took them to the final of the Copa Del Rey, where they face Barcelona. Theo is also the younger brother of another Atletico Madrid defender, Lucas, who plays as a centre-back.

Reports from the Independent claim that Liverpool aren’t the only club wanting to sign Theo and Real Madrid are also in the running for the highly rated left-back.

The pair of clubs would have to pay around £20.5 million to get the player thanks to a release clause that Atletico have put in his contract. Of course, they would be looking to get a lot more for a player that seems set for a bright future, should they think about selling him,

While Real Madrid see him as a perfect replacement for Marcelo, Liverpool have had their problems with left-backs this season.

The Reds have had to shoehorn James Milner into the position after the failure of Alberto Moreno in the same position. If the Premier League club isn’t willing to stump up that amount, they could try a swap deal with Moreno + cash going the other way as they look to bring in Theo.

Zinedine Zidane also praised Theo Hernandez recently in a press conference but we all know how tough it would be for an Atletico player moving to Real.

Liverpool might not be in the driving seat yet for the defender but they have to work quickly if they are to fix their defensive problems next season. The transfer window will be immense for Liverpool again and Theo might be a surprise signing for the side.
