Anfield Update – Liverpool Keen On Signing Dembele (Not The Celtic Forward)

Liverpool are believed to be interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain starlet Mahamadou Dembele, as the youngster is yet to sign a professional contract with the French Club. The 18-year old centre-half is rated very highly in France and is one of the hottest defensive prospects in the country.

He has played 6 games in the UEFA Youth league this season and even has a goal to his name. His impressive performances have led to many of Europe’s top clubs being interested in the player and now L’Equipe (h/t Daily Mirror

) have claimed that Liverpool have already held talks with the representatives of the player regarding a move to the Merseyside club.

Jurgen Klopp is well known for his eye for spotting young talents and he wouldn’t be wrong with his judgment of Dembele if he believes the young boy is fit for Liverpool. Since the Reds are serving a transfer ban in signing players for their youth academy, it is possible that Liverpool are looking to add the player to the senior team.

However, PSG are well aware of the amount of interest the player has gathered and are hopeful of tying the player down to a new contract and have opened up negotiations with Dembele’s representatives. It will be interesting to see if the young Frenchman signs a contract with PSG or opts to move abroad at such a young age.

He has represented France at the U-18 stage and has 9 caps for his country at that level. There is no doubt that Mahamadou Dembele is a talented prospect and he might very well develop into a star player under Jurgen Klopp.

However, with the player being so young, he might prefer staying back at France and continuing his development rather than moving abroad and settling down in a new environment.

Nevertheless, Liverpool will keep tabs on the French boy’s progress and even if they fail to secure a move now, a transfer may well be on the cards in the future.
