‘He ticks all the boxes’ – Jamie Carragher Urges Liverpool To Sign This ‘Elite’ Premier League Winner

Jamie Carragher is of the opinion that Liverpool should try to sign Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart, who is currently on loan at Torino. Despite being the regular first choice goalkeeper for City over the last five years, Hart was not even given an opportunity under the regime of new manager Pep Guardiola. The arrival of Claudio Bravo signalled an imminent end to his time at the club. Even though he has moved to Torino only on a loan deal and could still be able to return to the Etihad stadium, it is believed that he does not have a future at the club.

Hart is widely expected to be looking for a new club in the summer. Carragher says that Liverpool should be capitalise on the situation and bring him in as the replacement for either Simon Mignolet or Loris Karius. Both goalkeepers have disappointed massively in this campaign, and the Liverpool legend reckons that they have each cost the club at least a couple of points, which would have helped them secure a top three finish by the end of the season. Liverpool have lost hope of catching Chelsea or Tottenham in the Premier league title race. The most important objective for the Reds would be to finish in the top three, which would give them direct access to the Champions League group stages next campaign.

Carragher reckons that Hart ticks all the boxes for Liverpool. He said:

“For me, Joe Hart ticks all the boxes as the kind of keeper Liverpool need. At the moment, Jurgen Klopp has Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius.

“One is a very good Premier League keeper and the other might develop into a top player. But are they part of the elite?

“I don’t think so – but Hart definitely is.”

The Kop Times Verdict

Hart has a great amount of experience in the Premier League and as Carragher points out, he is certainly an ‘Elite’ Premier League Player. At 29 years of age, while he will still be able to play for another 5-6 years if he manages to remain in shape, Hart promises to be a sensible addition. His contract runs out in the summer of 2019 and City will not be too worried about allowing him to leave on a cut-price deal. He has been playing in the Premier league for most his career, and Hart has proven to be an excellent shot stopper.

Simon Mignolet himself is an excellent shot stopper, but he has badly let down the team in matters where the Premier League opponents excel in set pieces. Hart is also not excellent at set pieces, but significantly better than Mignolet. The club has conceded more goals than any of the top six opponents, and it has been the vital factor behind the club dropping out of the title race, despite having dominated in the first half of the campaign.

Should Liverpool Sign Hart?
