Liverpool have been extensively linked with Athletic Bilbao star Inaki Williams in the past and now it is being reported

that the Reds have already made efforts to sign the player. It is believed that Liverpool are serious about signing the player and that a bid has already been launched in an attempt to sign the talented young star.

The 22-year old has scored 7 goals and provided 8 assists in 43 appearances so far and has played for 3238 minutes on the pitch. The numbers are a clear indication of his physical ability and fitness levels. This might probably be the reason why Klopp wants to sign the player.

Jurgen Klopp’s high intensity ‘gegenpressing’ football needs players with high levels of commitment and physical fitness and it is no wonder that Inaki Williams has been linked with a move to Anfield.

A few days back, Williams dismissed such reports saying that he wasn’t looking to move away from Bilbao anytime soon. He signed a long-term deal with Bilbao in 2016. It is also said that there is a €50million release clause in his contract. If Liverpool

If Liverpool are to land the 22-year old, then they might have to pay the whole amount as he has more than a couple of years left on his contract. With the player being happy at the club, Liverpool may have to work really hard to get the deal done.

The Kop Times Verdict

Inaki Williams is primarily a winger and is capable of playing as a striker too. Out of 43 appearances for Bilbao, he has featured on the right wing on 29 occasions and has played up front as a striker on 12 occasions.

In October Spain’s General Directorate of Taxes passed a resolution which means players aren’t liable for tax if forced to pay their own release clause.

Whilst that would be a boost for Liverpool, €50m (£42.3m) is still a big fee, and Klopp would first have to convince Williams, who has repeatedly stated how happy he is at the Basque club.

Williams would be a perfect backup to have in the case of Mane being absent and Klopp shouldn’t think too much about bringing in a young player with such potential. Though the amount of money involved is high, it might turn out to be a good investment for the future.

Do you think Inaki Williams is worth £42.3m?
