Liverpool are reportedly set to receive an offer from Hertha Berlin for the permanent transfer of Allan Rodrigues de Souza. The 20-year-old has spent the campaign on loan at the German outfit. It is believed that he has sufficiently impressed the hierarchy at the club to be considered for a potential permanent move. The 20-year-old central midfielder is highly rated at Liverpool and manager Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to consider letting the player leave on a permanent basis. However, one of the stumbling blocks towards keeping him at Anfield would be a work permit.
Since Allan has not yet featured for the Brazilian national team, he is unlikely to get a work permit in England. The work permit rules in England require a player to have made a certain number of appearances for the national team in the last two years. With Allan yet to even make his debut for the national team, it looks highly unlikely that he will receive the work permit in time to feature for Liverpool next season. Hertha Berlin general manager Michael Preetz said:
“We must and will discuss this with Liverpool.”
The interest from Hertha Berlin towards converting the loan move into a permanent deal is rather surprising considering that the player has featured in only 10 league matches this season. Out of these 10 games, only four have been from the start. Allan has not been able to make much of an impact largely due to his involvement with the Brazilian U-20 team at the U20 South American championship, which had been held from January to February. Even then, he has been a mediocre signing for the German club. However, they have seen enough talent within the player to suggest the idea of taking a gamble.
While Hertha Berlin have confirmed their interest, they are not likely to spend a huge sum of money on the player. Allan is valued at around €1 million and Liverpool can only expect a similar figure for the player should the loan move be converted into a permanent deal. Allan joined the Liverpool from Brazilian outfit Internacional in the summer of 2015. After having the Merseyside outfit around £500,000 in order to make the transfer, Liverpool are only set to make a substantial loss on the player, as they have spent a substantial figure on his development purposes over the last two years.
Since joining Liverpool, Allan has spent time on loan at various clubs like SJK Seinäjoki and Sint-Truiden. However, the switch to Hertha Berlin is a major step in the right direction for the player.
