Liverpool are set to sign Joe Hart for £20million according to reports from the Sun. It has been claimed that the Reds are close to sealing the deal for Manchester City goalkeeper Hart, who is currently on loan at Torino.
Hart was sent out on loan by Man City and has been having a fairly good season with Torino in Italy. It appears as though Pep Guardiola might not include Hart in the team again and is expected to stick with Willy Caballero and Claudio Bravo. Though Bravo has been disastrous this season, Guardiola has preferred playing the keeper occasionally.
Caballero has been the regular at Manchester City in recent months and it might stay that way next season as well, with Joe Hart’s future uncertain.
It would be a massive coup for Liverpool as they have had their own share of problems too. Simon Mignolet has not managed to establish his authority at the back and Loris Karius has not used his chances well either.
However, ESPN has confirmed that the report from Sun is false. ESPN’s Jonathan Smith reports,
Liverpool source told ESPN FC that the club have no interest in the England international and that the speculation is “completely fictitious,” with manager Jurgen Klopp rating Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius as better goalkeepers.
Liverpool have the worst defensive record among the Premier League top-6 and have shipped in 40 goals. Though fingers can be pointed at the defenders, a fair share of the blame must go to the goalkeeping department as well.
Hart is set to return to the Etihad in the summer and will turn down any offers to stay at Torino beyond this season, according to the Daily Mirror.
Signing Hart would be a shrewd piece of business by Liverpool and it would be an essential buy as well, but as it stands, Hart will not be a Kop anytime soon.
Do you think Joe Hart would be a good signing for Liverpool?
