Surprisingly, Real Madrid and Barcelona are reported to be two clubs heavily interested in the player. It is not often that these two Spanish giants show interest in an English youngster. Hence, this suggests that Woodburn is a player of real talent. The entry of Barcelona appears to have made Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale extremely concerned. He has reportedly advised Madrid hierarchy not to miss out on the 17-year-old, according to Spanish outlet Don Balon.

Real Madrid are on the lookout for a player who can potentially replace Cristiano Ronaldo in the left side of the attacking three. While Woodburn is not a direct replacement for the superstar, Bale sees him as the ideal long-term replacement. Woodburn is excellent at the left wing position. He has a contract with Liverpool only until the summer of 2019. Despite his obvious talent, Liverpool have been unable to persuade the player to sign a contract extension with the club.

Woodburn has already made his Premier league debut for the club after starring in the 2-1 win over Stoke. In the reserve league – Premier League 2, he has featured in 13 appearances and has contributed six goals and six assists. He happens to be one of the best players in the Premier League 2. Even though he has played less than 90 minutes of Premier League football, his talent has been obvious to see.

While Madrid are extremely interested in the player, it remains to be seen if Woodburn can be convinced about the move to the Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid has not exactly been helpful to the development of young players. The club has been focused more on signing marquee names. This has resulted in highly talented youngsters like Jese Rodriguez and Alvaro Morata looking for opportunities elsewhere. The latter may have returned back to the club in the summer but he has already been linked with a move away from Madrid.

Barcelona may be a great alternative option, but Woodburn will be coming up against a wealth of talent in the La Masia academy.
