Liverpool appear to be strengthening their forward positions in the wake of Daniel Sturridge’s expected departure from the club. The club has been linked with a number of players capable of playing in the left or right wings.

Liverpool Echo are now reporting that the club has made it a priority to sign Bayern Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt, along with the likes of  Julian Brandt, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Marco Asensio

20-year-old Brandt has been one of the key players for Leverkusen in the last few seasons. He was signed from Wolfsburg as a teenager back in 2014. His progress has been so good that transfer interest from clubs across European football is not surprising.

Bayern Munich are thought to be one of the favourites to sign the player. The German outfit have always been first when it comes to signing the top-rated Germans, and it is no different in the case of Brandt. However, Liverpool are looking to utilise the presence of Jurgen Klopp in order to persuade the player to move to Anfield.

Brandt would be a huge signing for Liverpool, as he has been consistently rated as one of the top players in the German league. This season, he may have scored only four goals in 36 appearances across all competitions, but he has contributed immensely through 8 assists. Brandt’s strength is not scoring goals himself, but bringing others into play.

Liverpool have experienced a lot of success in bringing players from the German league. The likes of Roberto Firmino and Joel Matip have excelled at Anfield. Their presence and success will be a huge motivational tool for other German names looking to join the Premier League outfit.

Brandt will seriously consider this move, as there is every possibility of the 20-year-old losing track when he makes the switch to Bayern Munich. There is intense competition for places at the Allianz Arena, and there is little guarantee about Brandt securing a regular first-team place even if he costs an awful lot of money.

Leverkusen will see the summer as probably the best time to sell Brandt, as the player’s contract is running out in the summer of 2019. The latest hint from the player’s camp is that he will not be extending his contract in view of the interest from top clubs across Europe.

A year ago, moving to Liverpool may have raised suspicion for the player since the club were not in the Champions League. However, Klopp has truly revolutionised the club in such a way that they are now looking set to make a return to Europe, well at least to the Europa League.
