Daniel Sturridge’s Liverpool career hangs in the air, as it remains unsure whether the striker will return again before the end of the season. According to reports from the Guardian, Sturridge could already have played his last game for Liverpool, as he continues to struggle with recurrences of a hip problem.
Daniel Sturridge’s injury record has been abysmal and he hasn’t really managed to put together a string of fine appearances. His career has always been marred by injuries and it hasn’t really helped his cause.
Sturridge has appeared just 23 times for Liverpool this season, totalling up to approximately 100 minutes. He has scored 6 goals and 3 assists, with 2 of the goals coming in the Premier League. However, it now looks like Klopp has lost faith in the striker, after giving him enough opportunities to prove his fitness.
Sturridge pulled out of Liverpool’s clash against Crystal Palace this past weekend due to a recurrence of his hip injury. The Reds eventually lost the game 2-1 and the result put a huge dent in our chances to qualify for the Champions League. Nevertheless, there are still 4 games left until the end of the season and if the Anfield outfit manages to gather maximum points, there would be little to worry about.
A lot was expected of Sturridge when he arrived at Liverpool but it hasn’t worked out that way. Now with doubts hanging over the English striker’s Liverpool future, it finally looks like he may move on this summer.
On the other hand, captain Jordan Henderson’s injury replacement Emre Can has spoken about Liverpool’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League and also revealed his expectation from the Manchester Derby that is set to take place this midweek.
Can said that he would be rooting for the team whose result would favour Liverpool. He said,
“Is that the better result? A City win? Then I am for City! One of the top teams will drop points and that is a good thing. We have to be there and in the next game against Watford, we have to win again. If we win the last four games we will reach the Champions League.”
Manchester City and Manchester United are the two teams who are below Liverpool in the league table, with them being 2 points and 3 points behind the Reds respectively. However, both the Manchester Clubs have 2 games in hand on Liverpool and this may play to the benefit of either one of them.
Do you think we can make it to next season’s Champions League?
