Liverpool were one of the favourites for the Premier League title in December but a spate of injuries and poor results in 2017 saw them slide down the table, falling out of contention for the title.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have gone from strength to strength after employing Antonio Conte’s famous 3-5-2 system. A number of great performances have seen them climb to the cusp of the Premier League but many have suggested that the gulf in class between the two sides also lies with the players in each team.

Former Arsenal star Ray Parlour highlighted the fact that the Blues were able to rest a number of players such as Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas for their FA Cup clash against Tottenham and still came out on top.

Chelsea did win the game 4-2 to dump Tottenham out of the competition and reach the FA Cup final, and are 4 points clear of their London rivals as well, suggesting that they have a large and world-class squad to call upon when required.

The Sport Review reported the comments from former Arsenal man, in which he stated that Liverpool need a bigger squad if they want to get better. speaking on the Alan Brazil Up Front podcast, he said:

Speaking on the Alan Brazil Up Front podcast, he said:

“Look at Chelsea’s bench. I know they rested a few players but they brought on Hazard, Costa and Fabregas,” Parlour said. If you look at Liverpool’s bench, there was a lot of youngsters. The squad isn’t big enough going forward. He needs to address that in the summer.”

Jurgen Klopp’s side has faded away in the second half of the season but a top-four finish is still within grabs. The Reds had lost at Anfield thanks to a Christian Benteke brace but they ensure they beat Watford to capitalise on the Manchester clubs’ result.Their top four hopes are back alive and hopefully, it stays alive.
