Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly ready to go head-to-head with Manchester United for the signing of Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas. According to Express, Liverpool and Manchester United are set to go for a bidding war to sign the Spanish pass master from Chelsea.

Cesc Fabregas has made only 10 starts for Chelsea this season and has made a total of 33 appearances. He has been on the pitch for approximately 1640 minutes. Though he has been used many times as a substitute, he has been committed to the cause and has shown some exemplary quality. He has scored 6 goals this season and has 12 assists to his name and is undoubtedly an outstanding midfielder.

Fabregas joined Chelsea from Barcelona in the summer of 2014 for around £30million and has made more than 120 appearances for the Blues. The former Arsenal star would be a perfect addition for Liverpool given the way Klopp’s teams play and would be a quality addition to the Liverpool squad.

The lack of depth in the midfield region has been brutally exposed this season but the Reds have been lucky to have come over the apparent lack of numbers in midfield. Henderson’s injury has led to Emre Can’s outstanding rise but one more injury to any of the central midfielders can further expose Liverpool’s lack of depth.

Fabregas would walk into the Liverpool’s first team and would add such flair and technicality to the midfield. However, Chelsea would certainly not want to sell their star player to a direct rival like Liverpool. Fabregas would improve Liverpool’s squad by multiple folds and that would turn the Reds into genuine title contenders next season. Conte would certainly not want to do this.

The Spaniard’s contract with the Blues runs until 2019 and hence wouldn’t cost too much as he is already 30-years old. The sum would be nominal considering his contract length and age. It would be a coup if Klopp pulls off the deal.

Whether or not of the interest in the player is concrete is yet to be known but as of now, the sign is good that Liverpool are being linked with a quality midfielder like Cesc Fabregas.
