Julian Brandt has been one of Liverpool’s biggest targets for the coming season but it seems the German isn’t keen on moving away from Bayer Leverkusen, according to his comments on German publication Focus;
“If you make a move, there’s no guarantee that you play.”
“I think it is very important for me to play many matches next season and that’s what I can do in Leverkusen.”
Now the Reds are rumoured to be looking to France for one of Paris Saint-Germain’s star according to Le10Sport.
The French publication claims that the Reds are willing to spend big in the summer and attempt to sign Lucas Moura. The 24-year-old Brazilian has been one of the better players at the Ligue 1 side in recent seasons but hasn’t sparkled all that much for the side this time around.
His place in the team is also in question thanks to Julian Draxler who moved in the winter transfer window and with the likes of Angel di Maria, Edinson Cavani and Javier Pastore firing on all cylinders, Moura’s time at the club could be coming to an end.
Liverpool would have to stump up a large amount to bring the attacker to England but the clubs have a history of completing business with Mamadou Sakho joining the Reds from the Parisian side.
The Reds will certainly have to pay more than the €40 million PSG paid Sao Paulo back in 2013 and with Atletico Madrid also keeping tabs on the Brazilian, a bidding war could quickly ensure.
The Kop Times Verdict
Moura might be a great attacker but a big question lies about his consistency. The 24-year-old has a lot of time to develop under Jurgen Klopp but tracking back isn’t something that he is known for, and that is something that the Brazilian will have to do at Liverpool.
With only nine goals and five assists from 34 Ligue 1 games, Moura does not have a great return for the French side. A move to Liverpool would give him a lot of playing time but the first choice remains Brandt for the moment.
Moura would be a marquee signing for the Reds and would give them pace on both flanks with Sadio Mane taking up the other slot out wide. But will Liverpool be able to match PSG’s asking price? That only time will tell.
