Liverpool’s targets for the summer are more or less known to everyone, however, there hasn’t been anything concrete coming from the club or manager Jurgen Klopp. One of the players that is high on the list for the German is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and the Daily Telegraph believes that the England international is considering a move to Anfield.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has been one of the few players to have kept their reputation intact after another disappointing season for Arsenal. The Gunners only have the FA Cup final to look forward to and are in danger of missing out on the Champions League next season.
The former Southampton player’s contract at the Emirates ends in 2018 and he hasn’t signed a new deal to extend his stay. Oxlade-Chamberlain is just one of a handful of players that will have a lot of speculation about their future as contracts are running out in 2018.
The midfielder is extremely versatile and has been deployed as a right-wingback for the Gunners recently. Even though Oxlade-Chamberlain has been one of the bright sparks at Arsenal, he has only started 15 Premier League games this season.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has scored two goals and has seven assists to his name from the 28 Premier League games he has taken part in and could form a great partnership with Sadio Mane on the other side of the wing at Liverpool.
The Kop Times Verdict
Liverpool do need players who are versatile and Klopp needs a player who has the energy and ability to play in his gegenpressing style. The 23-year-old could play out wide or in midfield, thus giving Klopp various options to deploy the Englishman in.
The 23-year-old wouldn’t be considered as a major signing that can turn the fortunes of the club around. But he would be a good addition to a squad that seriously lacks quality and does have the ability to impact games positively.
Liverpool have an important summer of transfers coming up and if Oxlade-Chamberlain does join for a reported asking price of £25 million, it would be a decent start for the upcoming season.
