Kevin Stewart is a player that seemed to have a bright future at Liverpool, especially according to Jurgen Klopp but it now is being reported that the 23-year-old is on his way out of the club.
Sky Sports (Scroll down to 17:30) claims that the midfielder is a target for Derby and there are a number of other clubs looking to add the player to their ranks. Stewart was seen as a possible first teamer this season but he hasn’t progressed all that much and has seen players such as Lucas Leiva and Marko Grujic getting game time in the second half of the season.
The English midfielder has only made 20 first team appearances for Liverpool since he made his switch from Tottenham in 2014 and he did play nine times for the Reds this season. Even though he also featured in four Premier League games, it seems he has not impressed Klopp enough and the German is ready to let go of the midfielder.
Stewart could remain in the Premier League though as Stoke City, Burnley (Daily Mail) and even new boys Brighton want to sign the player up either on a loan deal or on a full-time basis.
It does seem that the Englishman has to move away from Anfield if he is to get regular playing time and maybe Klopp could give him one season out on loan to decide if he is to keep him or not.
Liverpool didn’t turn to Stewart when Jordan Henderson picked up an injury and they have played with other older players rather than Stewart, thus giving the impression that his time at the club is coming to an end soon.
Many Liverpool fans also feel that Stewart has done all that he could have for his progression at the club and it is time to cut their losses quickly. The summer will be a big one for the Reds and they have to make room for the signings in the upcoming transfer window.
Stewart does seem to be a goner for now and unless something extraordinary happens, he won’t be playing for the Red of Liverpool next season.
