Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is close to signing Brazilian sensation Luan from Gremio according to reports from the Mirror.

The report claims that the German has kept a tab on the attacking midfielder, who was an integral member of the Brazil team that won gold in the recent Olympics.

The 24-year-old is dubbed the new “Ronaldinho” and certainly has been in great form for his club, Gremio. The attacking midfielder turned a new contract down at the club and only has one year left on his deal.

Luan could cost Liverpool £26 million and would be another Brazilian to join the ranks of the club with Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino currently starring in the attack. Lucas Leiva might be on the verge of an exit from the club but he too had joined Liverpool from Gremio close to 10 years back.

The Mirror also reports that the player’s representatives, along with his business advisor Jair Peixoto and agent Gianni Losito, flew to London and contact was made with Anfield representatives where terms of the deal were discussed.

This will come as great news for Liverpool fans who have been worried about a lack of quality transfers coming into the club. Gabriel Jesus proved that you don’t need time to adjust to the Premier League and has been starring for Manchester City, and Liverpool will expect something similar from Luan.

The Kop Times Verdict

The 24-year-old Gremio man can play in a number of positions and anywhere in the final third of the pitch, something that Klopp could use to great effect. The Reds do play a fluid attacking system and having someone who can drift in from wide or switch places with the wingers would give Liverpool a greater threat against opposition defences.
