Liverpool’s hunt for a Premier League title fell apart quite incredibly in the months of January and February where the lack of quality players hurt us. Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane’s absence hurt a lot but one thing that stood out was the total inability to break down teams.

With the duo out, you would have expected someone to step up and one area which was rightly criticised is the midfield. Even with Jordan Henderson in the side, we couldn’t hurt teams with incisive passing and that has to be addressed by Jurgen Klopp in the summer.

One way of doing it is bringing in someone who can unlock the opposition from the centre of the park and Transfer Market Web claim we are in the race to sign Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes along with Juventus.

The Roma star is known for his passing range even in a deeper role and his club value him at £21 million, which is certainly affordable, even by FSG standards. The big problem that lies is the fact that Juventus want him and with Miralem Pjanic joining them last season, another deal between the two sides is possible.

The Kop Times Verdict

We do need some cover for Henderson in the team and Paredes could turn out to be the man. The 22-year-old Argentine can also tackle well and his defensive game is right up there with the best, thus making him a great option to have.

Not to forget, Lucas is another player that is certain to leave Anfield and without any real backup for him too, we will be light in the middle of the park. Klopp does have a really good record of transfers with us and it wouldn’t hurt if he does sign Paredes up.

What will turn out to be a major surprise is if Paredes comes and Naby Keita doesn’t. This could be a ploy from the side to get another alternative and hopefully play the hand of RB Leipzig into selling Keita.

Paredes does have a bright future ahead of him and if we truly can beat Juventus to his signing, that would be a major coup.
