Liverpool Concerned As Celtic’s Brendan Rodgers Looks To Swoop Talented Youngster From The Club

Harry Wilson to Celtic?

According to ESPN, Liverpool are concerned about the growing transfer interest from Celtic and Wolves for the talented youngster Harry Wilson. The 20-year-old came through the ranks at the club and he is regarded as one of the finest prospects. His debut for Liverpool came in the recent FA Cup replay game against Plymouth. After having captained the under 23 team at Liverpool, it is believed that Wilson has a fine future especially after the arrival of Steven Gerrard as the youth team coach at the club. He was crowned as the youngest player to make an appearance for the Welsh national team after making his international debut back in 2013.

The winger has been reportedly attracting the attention of clubs like Celtic and Wolverhampton Wanderers. The attention from the former is not surprising considering that Celtic are managed by Brendan Rodgers, who knows a thing or two about the talented youngsters in the Liverpool youth set up from his three-year spell at the club. Rodgers has been showing a lot of interest in youngsters playing in the Premier League teams. Dominic Solanke, who is one of the highly rated youngsters in the Premier League, is about to make the switch to Celtic from Chelsea.

Hence, there is a real fear amongst Liverpool that Wilson may be attracted by the first-team opportunities at Celtic rather than having to work his way up at Liverpool. Even if Wilson manages to remain in the first-team squad for next season, it is highly unlikely that the club will provide him with a string of first-team opportunities next season. It will not be the case at Celtic, where Brendan Rodgers is likely to throw Wilson straight into the first-team if he manages to sufficiently impress.

At 20 years of age, Wilson knows that it is about time that he starts to play regularly for a club in order to develop himself as a professional footballer. The under 23 football simply does not cut at this stage. Celtic have just managed to conclude the league campaign without a single defeat, and the club are looking to build on this brilliant season by doing well in European football.
