‘In The Past, You Couldn’t Say No’ – Micheal Owen Says Players Won’t Prefer Joining Liverpool Anymore

Former Liverpool and Manchester United star Michael Owen has claimed that both his former clubs will find it difficult to sign players this summer as he feels clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City have strong financial power than us and our bitter rivals.

Owen says that there were times when nobody could refuse joining Liverpool and Manchester United, and that now things are different.

We certainly need some heavy reinforcements in our squad and Jurgen Klopp knows it for sure. The German has already made it clear that the club is well prepared and there is nothing to worry on that front.

The Reds sealed a return to the Champions League last weekend thanks to a 3-0 win against Middlesbrough on the final day of the 2016-17 season. Goals from Georginio Wijnaldum, Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana wrapped up the fourth spot as the Merseyside outfit finished a point ahead of Arsenal.

Manchester United, on the other hand, needed to win the Europa league to seal their place in the Champions League, which they did by beating Ajax 2-0.

However, Michael Owen says,

“In the past, if Liverpool or Manchester United came in for you, you couldn’t say no. Now, other teams have the financial clout to compete. Chelsea and Manchester City.”

Liverpool

Now that both the clubs are in the Champions League, personally I don’t really see any difficulty in either of us signing players. Liverpool and Manchester United are both known for their rich history and Owen’s claims can simply be stated as ridiculous.

The man never seems to make sense. No matter what, it is exceptionally difficult to accept such rubbish claims.

Let’s put the rivalry aside and think big. Why would a player refuse to join Liverpool, who are set to play in the Champions League? Chelsea and Manchester City might have financial strength. Of course, it will be difficult to compete with them in the market. But if the players had to choose between Liverpool and Manchester City, the odds are high that they will choose to play for us rather than City, as we have more history and more to offer in the future as well.

Dear Michael Owen,

Just because you are in front of a camera, it doesn’t mean you speak whatever you want.

Sincerely,

Liverpool fans.
