Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing PSV defender Santiago Arias, who seems to be targeting a move away from the Dutch club. Tottenham are also interested in signing the player and it looks like it is going to be a transfer battle between the two clubs.
The 25-year old has won four league titles at PSV and is keen to leave the club this summer to take on a new challenge. The defender has 31 caps for Colombia and will be hoping to star at the World Cup next summer.
According to AS Colombia, the Premier League duo admires the 25-year-old, who is tipped to leave PSV this summer.
It is hard to see why he would switch to a big club like Liverpool just one summer before the World Cup. Arias is now a regular at PSV and is winning trophies. Although it is a nice idea to try a new challenge, switching clubs this summer might be a bad idea for him.
Nathaniel Clyne is way better than Arias and challenging the Englishman for a place in the Liverpool XI would be a herculean task for him and it would be difficult to achieve, considering that there will be more pressure than usual as his performance in the upcoming season would determine whether he will be a part of the Colombian squad or not.
He would rather benefit by joining Tottenham than Liverpool, as Kyle Walker’s future is extremely uncertain.
On the other hand, the young Trent Alexander-Arnold has risen up the ranks and impressed in his breakthrough season with the first team. Why would Klopp even halt the young lad’s progress and sign a new player to compete with Clyne? Trent is an extremely talented player and has a bright future. We should rather look to nurture him and make him big.
So it is easy to decode that Liverpool certainly don’t need the player, and it is possible that they are not even considering the prospect of signing Arias.
We believe this is another piece of false news to simply spread some rumours and keep things active on Liverpool’s transfer speculations.
Which positions do you think Liverpool need to strengthen this summer?
