Liverpool scored 78 goals in the league last season, and it was the same as our final position in the table – 4th best in the league. Any title winning team needs to have a prolific goalscorer and a solid central-defensive partnership. Now that Champions League football has been achieved, the Reds will be taking part in 4 competitions and the number of games to be played is going to be high.

It is important to have some good squad depth in these circumstances and this has seen us get linked with a lot of players in the last few months. Virgil van Dijk was the big addition that was expected this summer and the club have officially ruled out a move (BBC) for the Dutchman after some misunderstanding between the two clubs.

Nevertheless, that is not the end of the world and a club like Liverpool will surely have multiple targets to pursue. While the search for a defender is a different story altogether, we need a natural and proven striker too.

With regards to this, Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on Bordeaux striker Gaetan Laborde. The 23-year-old enjoyed an impressive season for Bordeaux, scoring 13 goals across all competitions as they finished 6th in Ligue1. And his talents have not gone unnoticed with French outlet La Depeche du Midi claiming Liverpool are interested in signing him.

It is said the Reds have made enquiries about the striker’s availability as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his ranks ahead of next season.

The Kop Times Verdict

Although Laborde is young and talented, he is probably not what we need at Anfield. We need a big name striker, who would score at will and instill fear in the opponents. Simply put, we need a goalscoring monster. With so much creative talent at our disposal, our goals tally would certainly increase if we buy a good finisher. Sturridge has been tried and tested but his injury concerns don’t seem to go away. As much as a quality player that he is, his fitness is always a worry.

Labore is only 23-years old and would improve with age. But he is not the player for Liverpool now and personally, I would not want us to sign Gaetan Laborde this summer.
