He has not even kicked a ball in a Liverpool shirt but is already flying high like a superstar. The arrival of Dominic Solanke for a paltry sum of £3m is an absolute bargain considering how the lad’s playing. While the Chelsea fans have been rueing this, it looks like Solanke has added more to their misery.
In the recently concluded FIFA U-20 World Cup, where England have been crowned as Champions, Dominic Solanke has won the Golden Ball award. Undoubtedly, he was the best player of the tournament and what amount of expectation he’d now be bringing to Anfield.
It is now easy to conclude that Solanke will be involved in some first team action come next season. Chelsea continues to pay the price for not valuing their youngsters and this time though, it is us who have benefitted.
The 19-year-old Solanke scored 4 goals in the tournament to help England clinch glory in South Korea, with Paul Simpson’s side beating Venezuela 1-0 in the final on Sunday. He joins the elite list of Manchester United’s Paul Pogba, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Argentina legend Diego Maradona by winning the prize.
Solanke is all set to join us from July 1 and what an entry he will be. The boy is drawing praises from all over the world but it is also important that he doesn’t let all this get into his head.
The fans, as usual, took Twitter to express their joy at Solanke winning the Golden Ball award and we managed to put together a few tweets. Read on!
Here’s what Solanke posted on Instagram.
Undoubtedly, the fans reacted in an extremely positive way!
They made a mistake letting him go in all honesty, not just me being a Liverpool fan
