Lucas Leiva of Liverpool

Lucas could be heading back to the club that sold him to Liverpool in 2007. According to a report from Brazilian publication Zero Hora which claims that the club are trying hard to complete a deal for the midfielder.

The former Gremio man has been linked with a move away from the club for a while and at the start of last season, he decided to stick with us although the Brazilian had a number of offers on the table.

While Lucas has hinted that his time with us is coming to an end, his destination for next season isn’t confirmed as of yet. According to the same publication, the Gremio club director Odorico Román spoke about bringing the 30-year-old over to the club.

“Lucas is a great player, it would be an impact hiring. In order not to be on the wall, if there is a possibility within the financial conditions of the Guild, and that also serves Lucas’ interest, it is possible that he may come.”

Odorico spoke about the fact that Lucas is also looking at other options and that there is a possibility of the deal between us and Gremio being done.

“At this time, there is no negotiation. I talked to him a few days ago. At any moment we can make contact. He is also seeing the interest of other clubs. There is, yes, possibility of it coming. There is nothing in progress right now.”

A versatile player that gave everything on the pitch

Lucas has been one of those players that gave everything he had for the cause and was always trying to do what was right for the team. Last season, he even took up the role of playing as a centre-back when we were short on numbers but he never complained about it.

Unfortunately for the 30-year-old, he has become a little slow and isn’t the same player he was a few years ago. The cruciate ligament injury he picked up has affected his play and he isn’t the strongest player out there either.

It would be a perfect solution should Gremio actually crack a deal to take Lucas. However, there are other clubs interested too and the Brazilian could see himself playing in another European league.

Lucas is one player that most of us fans look up to, always giving 100% on the pitch. And even if he does leave in the summer, he will always be loved by most of the Liverpool faithful.
