Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is the next player on the radar for Liverpool according to a report carried out by The Mirror. The Englishman had a great end to the season for the Gunners but the pair have not been able to complete a contract extension to keep the midfielder at the Emirates.

The report claims that Anfield chiefs’ have made a direct enquiry to Arsenal to bring the youngster to Anfield and the London club are under pressure to sell the player, due to the failure in contract negotiations.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was one of the few players that didn’t get a rollicking from the Arsenal fans during a tough second half of the season which saw them fall out of the top four. The lack of Champions League football is certainly going to hurt the club this season and with us making it to the qualifiers at least, we have a real chance of joining Europe’s elite.

The fact that Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of the Ox is another reason why the deal might take place and we have been able to give starting roles to players such as Adam Lallana and Georginio Wijnaldum. The pair have become vital for the Reds and the ability of the Ox to play in a number of positions could work in our favour should we sign him up.

The England international was not a regular for Arsenal last season as well and only started 16 Premier League games for the Gunners, far fewer than what he would have imagined at the start of the season.

He was also deployed as a right-wing back during the second half of the season and that is a position where we could use him as well.

It will be interesting to see how Arsenal deal with the official enquiry from us given that we don’t have the best of relationships with the Gunners. We do know about the Luis Suarez incident early on and also there are reports that claim Roberto Firmino has a clause in his contract that does not allow his sale to Arsenal (Goal.com).

Should we bring in the Ox, it would certainly hurt one of our rivals for next season while also strengthening us with a quality player that has a lot of potential.
