Liverpool have confirmed the departure of defender Andre Wisdom to EFL Championship side Derby County, after having agreed a fee last month.
The 24-year old, who can play as both a right-back and a centre-back, had been with us since the age of 14, when he joined from Bradford City in January 2008. Wisdom made his debut for the Reds in 2012, in the UEFA Europa League encounter against Young Boys, in which he went on to score as well.
However, following his breakthrough that year, he could not cement his place in the first team and had temporary stints with his new club Derby County, along with West Bromwich Albion, Norwich City and Red Bull Salzburg – the most recent one, for whom he made 24 appearances.
Wisdom now departs the club having made just 22 appearances, with the goal on his debut being the only one he has scored for the Reds.
The official statement on the club’s website said:
“Andre Wisdom has joined Derby County after completing his permanent transfer from Liverpool today.
“A deal was agreed between the Reds and the Championship side last month for the 24-year-old to make the move.
“Everyone at Liverpool FC thanks Andre for his contribution to the club and wishes him the best of luck in his future career.”
However, the transfer fee for the defender was undisclosed.
Wisdom becomes the second signing for the Rams, who have already completed the transfer of another defender Curtis Davies, from Hull City.
The 24-year old Wisdom has signed a four year contract with the club that runs until the summer of 2021. The defender had a successful loan spell with the Rams back in 2013/14, when he made 38 appearances.
Wisdom has represented England at the U-16, U-17, U-19 and the U-21 levels. His last appearance for the Three Lions’ U-21 team came in 2013, where he was the captain of the side.
Wish you all the very best Andre!
