Liverpool are in for one of Argentina’s brightest talents Angel Correa, according to a report by Foot Mercato. The report states that we want to sign the 22-year-old from Atletico Madrid and are willing to offer him a five-year contract at the club.
The striker would be offered a package of £2.4 million a year and is seen as a player who will provide our side with a lot of options, given that we will have to play in European games next season too.
The Argentine played 45 games for the La Liga side and chipped in with 8 goals and 11 assists from all competitions – not bad for a player who was often played out wide as a winger and as a midfielder too.
Correa can also play as the main striker and is known for his defensive contribution. The deal is far from being complete as Atletico want close to £24.7million for the 22-year-old.
Looking at the hefty fees paid in the recent weeks, £24.7million isn’t the greatest transfer fee ever. But there should be a concern about how well Correa would play should he move to England.
The Argentine has not been a hit at Atletico over the years and with the World Cup coming up, he might not want a move away to a new club where his place in the side would not be guaranteed. However, if Klopp can promise him more playing opportunities than what Atletico would be able to offer next season, the deal could very well swing in our favour.
We already have spent big on Mohamed Salah and have brought in Dominic Solanke. But insiders at the club suggest that there are a few surprises waiting before the end of the transfer window.
Correa might not be the biggest name in Spanish or Argentine football but if he can realise his potential at Anfield, the 22-year-old will be a great hit amongst us fans and can lead the line for a number of years.
Do you think Correa would be a good signing for us?
