Jurgen Klopp certainly is trying his best not to flame the embers regarding a move for Virgil van Dijk and a deal being completed for the 26-year-old defender. The see-saw battle between Liverpool and Southampton seems to be coming to an end soon but the German was coy about any details for the deal.

While speaking to Liverpool TV, Klopp stated that he is not allowed to speak about the deal at all and was quoted by the Daily Star as saying:

“Am I allowed to talk about this? I am not!”

The German even took a shot at the media as he added that the papers had already written about the Van Dijk issue a few weeks back, where we even published an apology to all the fans, Southampton and the defender over our pursuit of him.

“Pretty much everything I could say would be a mistake. You or your colleagues wrote everything about this a few weeks ago.

“I was in Iceland by the way when somebody told me this was in the newspaper.

“Nothing happened since then, all good so far, so I can’t say anything about this.”

Even though Klopp has not revealed any details about a move for the former Celtic man, many believe that the Dutch defender will be playing for us next season. The Saints would be paid a record fee for one of their brightest players and would not want to keep hold of someone who is not pleased staying at the club.

Van Dijk wants a move to Liverpool

Van Dijk has also stated that he only wants a move to Liverpool, which further strengthens our position in signing him. What was a bit of a surprise recently was that the 26-year-old travelled with the Saints to Austria as part of their pre-season tour.

That could just be an eyewash as Southampton prepare for life without the imposing defender. Van Dijk has been one of the best players to have joined from the Scottish league in recent years and would be a sound investment for the future too.

Klopp has made the Dutchman one of his priority signings and after the “apology saga” we had to deal with, it would be best if this player is signed quickly.
