Looks like wingers are the flavour of the season now. We have seen how Gelson Martins keeps getting linked to Anfield – so much so that a huge offer was also mooted in the Portuguese media. Now you can add Genoa winger Diego Laxalt to that list.

The 24-year-old Uruguayan is a target for both the Merseyside clubs Liverpool and Everton according to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla. In fact, taking a march over these sides is London club West Ham, who have tabled an official bid.

However, the Genoa star is holding out for a move to Anfield as he waits for Jurgen Klopp to follow up his interest with a bid. With still a lot of time left in the transfer window, the player and his representatives are keeping their options open and would rather wait for Liverpool offer.

How Good Is Laxalt?

He scored one goal and made 4 assists last year in 36 Serie A appearances but his true value goes beyond these numbers. Laxalt joined Genoa on loan from Inter Milan in 2015 before signing permanently last year.

He is a player for the future and that is apparent from the interest shown by various clubs. Liverpool and Everton were leading the queue for his signature while Torino too are interested apart from West Ham, who have already made an offer.

Laxalt can play in multiple positions – left back, left wing-back and central midfield. His versatility obviously outweighs his stats and that should explain the clamour for his signature. He can fill in at left-back immediately for Klopp, which has been a problem position at Anfield.

Will The Club Go For Him?

Klopp generally goes for players who can play multiple roles and Laxalt ticks that box. He is young, attacking, and comfortable while going forward – all the attributes that Klopp looks for in a potential signing.

Is The Player Ready To Sign For Us?

If reports are to be believed, yes! He is indeed waiting for an offer from Liverpool. West Ham’s offer is way below Genoa’s valuation while Everton are yet to follow-up on their interest. Surely, Liverpool are in pole position to sign the player – provided we make a bid.
