Liverpool are keen to make a bid for Rennes midfielder Benjamin Andre, according to reports coming from France. As the start of the new season comes closer, manager Jurgen Klopp is looking to finalise his midfield reinforcements.

According to the French newspaper Le Telegramme, Liverpool have done extensive scouting of the 27-year-old midfielder and are ready to submit a bid. The formal offer is expected to be around €17million.

Who Is Benjamin Andre?

I am sure, Google would get a lot of requests from Liverpool fans over who Benjamin Andre is. Andre was one of the star players at Rennes last season. He moved to France in 2006 when he joined Ajaccio’s youth team before making a move to Rennes in 2014.

He has played over 90 Ligue1 games for Rennes and although he has scored just one goal, Andre is one of the best players at the French club. According to reports in Get French Football News, the midfielder has been watched by the Merseysiders for quite some time now. The midfielder topped the ‘number of interceptions list’ in Ligue1 last season with 329 interceptions.

Why Are Liverpool Looking At Him?

It is an open secret that we are looking for a midfielder. All through the summer, Naby Keita was the cornerstone of all our discussions. But, RB Leipzig have been resolute in keeping the player and it looks like we would not get our wish – at least, not this season.

Klopp has reluctantly let Lucas Leiva join Lazio and we would need a good replacement for him. There is a cloud of doubt over Emre Can’s availability too as the German midfielder is out of contract next summer and is yet to sign an extension.

With so much uncertainty over the holding midfielder position, Klopp would want to add depth to the position at the start of the 2018/19 season.

Will We Bid For Andre?

The arrival of Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke has eased the worries over attacking midfield positions. Klopp now wants to get his holding midfield position settled.

Andre may not be an attractive option like Keita but will be a good squad player. With hopes of competing on multiple fronts this season, Andre would hold the position until Keita arrives next year.
