This is surely going to alert many Premier League clubs as Inter Milan holding midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia has asked to leave this summer transfer window. The France international midfielder moved to the Giuseppe Meazza only in the summer of 2015 but the 26-year-old is looking to move on this summer according to news from Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t TalkSport).
The 24-year-old started his career at Lens and then moved on to Spanish club Sevilla at the age of 19. He had a mixed time in Spain and then moved back to France with AS Monaco in 2013. Kondogbia had a successful stint with Monaco leading them to a second place in his first season and quickly established himself as one of the most coveted midfielders in Europe.
Inter snapped him in 2015 on a five-year contract in a deal worth around £25million. But, the midfielder had a mixed time in Italy hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Fans in England would remember his spectacular 40-yard own goal in a friendly against Chelsea last month. That would probably be a part of his highlight reel forever!
After the highs of being coveted by top clubs, Kondogbia now finds himself on the sidelines. He struggled for game time at Inter last season making just 24 appearances of which four were off the bench. He needs to restart his career and a change of club and league would do a world of good to his confidence.
The Reds are not the only side who are interested in the combative player. Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the midfielder in the past and now that he is ready to move, Mauricio Pochettino could be interested again. Now that the move for Naby Keita is 200% off the charts and ‘Keita to Liverpool’ is surely gone, Jurgen Klopp needs to settle his midfield targets.
There are reports that we may go for Benjamin Andre from Rennes to make up for the sale of Lucas Leiva (Le Telegramme). Reports from Italian outlet Calcio Mercato indicate that the Nerazzurri could be looking at a fee of around €30million to €35million.
What do you think? Will Kondogbia be a better option than anyone else, to be a squad player?
