Jurgen Klopp Identifies Two German Midfielders To Replace The Barcelona Bound Philippe Coutinho

Max Meyer

Liverpool are now bracing themselves for the inevitable and if the reports from The Mirror are to be believed, they looking out for a possibility of landing the German duo of Julian Brandt and Max Meyer as a possible replacement. Besides, Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne remains one of their many targets as well.

Philippe Coutinho’s transfer narrative is getting hot week by week. It all started with Barcelona submitting a massive £72million

for the Brazilian soon after the high profile £198million sale of Neymar. But the bid was rejected by us outright.

Their desire of signing our magical Brazilian was made obvious when they came back with a bid of around £90million but faced a similar fate. Just days after, Liverpool released a statement clarifying their stance of standing firm in Coutinho’s transfer. The statement read, “no offers for Coutinho will be considered”.

On Coutinho’s part, however, it seemed that the prospect of joining Barcelona triggered his consciousness and the Brazilian handed in a transfer request. He was ruled out of Liverpool’s season opener against Watford, with Klopp citing the reason as Coutinho’s ‘back problems’. He has also been left out of  Liverpool’s upcoming Champions League play-off against Hoffenheim.

Julian Brandt

Coutinho has stunned everyone, but Liverpool need to move on. Be it this summer or the next, there is a high possibility that he would leave.

A prospect of Champions League football is hanging right above the head and Klopp needs to add depth. While our defence has been a worrying spot, a serious injury to any of our attacking trio (Salah, Mane and Firmino) would bring us right on our knees.

Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt has time and again been linked with the Reds, but this might be the right time to land him. Besides, Schalke’s Max Meyer could be on his move as well. He has entered final year of his contract and might come on the cheap, but he could well be a gamble for Klopp given the fact that he only had one goal and one assist to his name last season.
