Jurgen Klopp certainly has been in a bit of a pickle recently regarding the future of not only Philippe Coutinho but also of the players that might be coming into the club.
The German has had to field a lot of questions in a press conference before the Crystal Palace game but was adamant that we are also looking to bring in some quality, should the situation arise.
As quoted by the Liverpool website, our manager said:
“Unfortunately, my English is not good enough to give 500 different answers on the same question! You can obviously see the whole market worldwide is quite difficult. A few teams are still looking and we are looking, but that’s what I do when I’m not actually on the pitch or not thinking about training or not thinking about the next game.”
There were some concerns though about the quality of our squad but Klopp, rather surprisingly stated that he would be happy with the squad should the transfer window have ended by now.
“Of course we think [about] what we can do, but if the transfer window would have ended yesterday, we would already have a team which I like and which we can play football with. Of course, [we have] injuries here and there and that’s not too cool, but still in this moment a good team.”
Klopp also gave us some hope, as the German added that there could be a few more deals up in the pipeline for us.
“The transfer window is a very important time, no doubt about this, but it’s also important what we do with the actual team. We will see what happens, I cannot change the answer because I don’t know.
“A few things can happen on both sides, but obviously everything leads to the direction of August 31 and it will, I can imagine, be a busy day, and if we [will be] involved in this busy day I don’t know, but we will see.”
With only three signings coming in the summer, our transfer window has become extremely disappointing and we have also had to deal with the entire Coutinho transfer saga, which has had an effect on our performances.
Should we be able to keep hold of the Brazilian and add another defensive stalwart, we might just do very well in the league but for now, Klopp has to claim wins over Crystal Palace and then Hoffenheim to ensure we have a lift up in both England and Europe.
