Arsenal legend Ian Wright strongly believes that Liverpool could be tempted into signing playmaker Julian Draxler from Paris Saint-Germain.

The German international was one of the most-wanted players in the German Bundesliga when he was plying his trade with Schalke 04 and then with Wolfsburg. He was continuously linked with Arsenal as Arsene Wenger harboured hopes of bringing him to English Premier League.

He moved to Paris Saint-Germain only in the January transfer window earlier this year in a £35.5million deal. Draxler was even touted as one of the best signings for PSG in the winter window.

However, the German international has now been told that he has no future with the club and is free to leave Paris this summer. The change in this stance is apparently due to the arrival of Neymar from Barcelona in a world record deal of £200million.

The 23-year-old was pursued by the Anfield side even before his switch to PSG and the links have resurfaced after this current development. Jurgen Klopp admires the player and it is reported that he made a late bid in January to hijack Draxler’s move to PSG.

Former Arsenal striker Wright thinks that Draxler could complete a move to Liverpool considering his situation and the sequence of events at PSG.

“Surely in this market, we’ve seen the ins and outs of what’s going on at PSG, this is a reason why you could say it does happen,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live  (as quoted by The Sport Review).

Should We Sign Draxler?

Liverpool are in the midst of a transfer tussle with Barcelona over playmaker Philippe Coutinho. He is being chased by the Catalans as a replacement for Neymar whose arrival at PSG is pushing Draxler out of the club. What a cycle of transfer activity!

An attacking midfielder who can also play on the left wing, Draxler is already a World Cup winner, having won it with Germany in 2014. He even captained his national side in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup after several seniors were rested. Draxler was awarded the Golden Ball trophy as the best player in that competition.

Known for his pace and speed of his shot, Draxler can be a hit at Anfield. Klopp’s interest in the player is quite evident and if we can follow up on our interest in January, he could end up wearing the Red before the end of this transfer window.
