Liverpool are set to battle with a number of big clubs for the signing of one of Netherlands’ brightest defenders, Perr Schuurs. De Telegraaf (h/t talkSPORT) claims that the 17-year-old is being scouted by a number of clubs, including Liverpool, and that he is being watched weekly by interested parties.

What will come as a bit of a bolt from the blue is that we had even taken the Fortuna Sittard youngster on a trial earlier in the year and the report claims that we want to sign him on a permanent deal. The other clubs keeping an eye on his situation are the two German giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, while another giant from Netherlands, Ajax, is also in the race to sign him up.

The report claims that we would have to fight off these three clubs to sign the captain of the second division side and if we do, it would be a great deal for us.

Tough To See Schuurs At Anfield

While the jury is still out as to whether the 17-year-old would be one of the best players in the Dutch league, it does seem unlikely that the youngster would be moving to us anytime soon.

It isn’t a factor that we are based in another country but when Ajax comes calling to any youngster from Netherlands, the player does end up at the club, more often than not.

Borussia Dortmund also could be another side where the Dutch defender could end up thanks to former Ajax boss Peter Bosz working at the club now and he would use all his Dutch experience in bringing players from the country.

We already have a number of quality players coming through the academy system and that is something Jurgen Klopp and the team can push to the 17-year-old. He would be given chances to prove his ability should he move to Anfield and that is what most youngsters want, a chance to play for the first-team.

It will be interesting to see just how the entire saga plays out but for now, the defender is staying put at his club, though that will change sooner than later.
