Daniel Sturridge of Liverpool.

Daniel Sturridge certainly is getting more game time this season than last time around. That could be due to the fact that we have extra number of matches this season, thanks to the Champions League. But the Daily Mirror (h/t Teamtalk) claims that the Englishman has a few months to prove his worth to Jurgen Klopp.

Teamtalk carries a report from the Mirror claiming that the German has warned Sturridge to prove his ability or he could be sold as early as January.

The 28-year-old has had to deal with a number of injuries since Klopp took over but he did complete the entire 90 minutes in the frustrating 1-1 draw against Burnley. Truth be told, he didn’t really do much in that game and there will be more questions about him playing in a Jurgen Klopp team.

Sturridge has often been used as the central striker in our 4-3-3 system but he doesn’t have the vision or even the movement that Roberto Firmino provides. The Englishman is more of a forward who will score when played through on goal, and hopefully with Philippe Coutinho coming back to form soon, the Brazilian can lay a few assists for the former Chelsea striker.

Time Running Out For Liverpool And Sturridge

The Englishman has a couple of years left on his £150,000-a-week deal that he signed with us back in 2014 and Klopp is still unsure about his consistency in finding the back of the net. While selling Sturridge at the start of the season might have made sense, the report adds that the Englishman’s value will drop as his contract starts running out at the club.

Dominic Solanke seems to be in the running for Sturridge’s spot at the moment and with Ben Woodburn flying high, competition for the forward spots in the Liverpool team will be high.

The next three months for Sturridge will be crucial and for once, it will not be about his lack of fitness. He has worked hard in the off-season to remain niggle-free for a while and hopefully, he will stay fit for the remainder of the season.

Even if Sturridge is sold, we won’t actually see that as a major loss as our front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Firmino is one of the best in the country. Should they play to their potential, they might turn out to be the best attack in the world.
