Jurgen Klopp isn’t the biggest fan of spending in the January transfer window and some might understand his position. That window is often filled with players who are overpriced and clubs know how desperate others can be, thus leading to a number of questionable deals.
This winter, however, it could be a different tale as we do need to add players to our side, especially in defence. With our struggle to keep clean sheets, it won’t be a surprise if we do dip into the transfer market.
Klopp admitted that we have the players to cope with the pressure of playing in all the competitions we are in but he claimed he was also willing to sign players, if there was a requirement.
As quoted by Goal, the German said:
“From today’s perspective yes, we have the resources, but we will see how it is again in January.
“We have had a few different line-ups and everything has been good in this competition in the last few years when we went to the final and semi-final.”
The German also added that earlier he didn’t have a squad to do well in all the competitions but now it is a different story.
“At one point we didn’t have the opportunity to line up with the strongest side and a lot of England legends said I didn’t respect the cup competitions, which is obviously not so nice.
“But in this moment we have the squad to play in different competitions and to go as far as possible. That is the plan.
“The competition is good. The final was good when we played there. The semi-final against Southampton last year was for us the wrong possible moment, that’s true, but we couldn’t change that.
“We will see how we are in January but at this moment I feel quite comfortable to use the players and bring players into different games.”
The Need For A Defender In January
It will be a major blunder from Klopp if we do not sign a defender in the winter window. We have already seen that the likes of Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan cannot be trusted and played every week, thanks to their poor showings in recent weeks.
FSG and Klopp have to work out a plan to ensure we do not have to suffer at the back anymore, and a couple of defenders will do the trick.
