Liverpool To Battle It Our With Manchester United For 14-Year Old French Prodigy

Elye Wahi (R)

Liverpool are keeping tabs on French Ligue1 youngster Elye Wahi, with an idea of making an offer. The 14-year-old youngster is currently with the Caen and reports from French outlet Le Parisien indicate that Liverpool are one of the many clubs that are looking to land the youngster.

Wahi has been catching the attention of several youth scouts at top clubs across the continent. The attacker was recently promoted to Caen’s Under-17 side – no less achievement for someone who’s just 14, and that has caught the attention of the Reds.

Liverpool have some strong competition from rival Premier League sides, as the report indicates that Manchester City, Manchester United, and Southampton are interested in taking Wahi to their respective academies.

The Reds scouts were present when Wahi netted twice against Paris Saint-Germain playing for Caen Under-17 but he couldn’t prevent his side going down 5-2. Caen has a very good reputation for nurturing talent and providing the right platform for youngsters to excel. Some of the recent names that come to the mind are Thomas Lemar, N’Golo Kante, and Yann Karamoh.

We all know how Kante took the Premier League by storm, helping Leicester City to its first Premier League title and then moving to Chelsea last season and helping them win the title.

Interestingly, the Reds were interested in signing Lemar this summer, with efforts and inquiries made about the young Monaco winger. Monaco’s resistance and difference of valuations meant that Lemar didn’t move to Anfield.

Wahi is considered to be one of the prized young assets at Caen academy despite his tender age. The club understands his potential and is also aware of the attention of various European clubs. They won’t be averse to the idea of selling him at the right price.

The challenge for Reds though is the fact that various other clubs are also casting glances at the youngster. The reputation of Jurgen Klopp in nurturing talents could come to our aid as we look to add another exciting youngster to our roster.

Do you think adding Wahi will be a good long-term move?
