Liverpool can never do things easy, as was evident in the game against Leicester City. We had not won a single game in the month of September and had already been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by the Foxes.
This, however, was a different story than from midweek where we failed to take our chances. Mohamed Salah scored from a header in the first half from a sumptous Philippe Coutinho cross before the Brazilian scored from a magnificent free-kick.
Leicester looked down and out but then Simon Mignolet stepped up as he failed to punch a ball from a corner and Shinji Okazaki just about slotted the ball in after it came off Joe Gomez, just before half-time.
The Foxes continued to put us under pressure but substitute Daniel Sturridge played Jordan Henderson in a typical counter and our captain slotted in smartly to give us a 3-1 lead. That should have been enough to collect the three points but Jamie Vardy scored Leicester’s as Mignolet could only parry a hard Demerai Gray shot.
With the score being 3-2, Leicester were always in the game and Mignolet gave away a stupid penalty by trying to kick the ball instead of collecting it and hammering Vardy. Our goalie made amends by saving from #the spot but certainly, this was not a great performance by Mig and questions will be raised about our goalkeeping situation.
Here’s how the fans reacted to the game, and to Mignolet’s performance:
Simon Mignolet has saved 5 of his last 8 penalties. He’s favourite to save ’em. pic.twitter.com/nYxzcdbvRX

New defensive plan; keep fouling lads in the box and let Mignolet save the pens.

Mignolet only concedes penalties so he can save them and fans forget briefly how poor he is. (I’m not fully serious, btw.)

Simon Mignolet:
– Questionable handling
– Doesn’t command defence
– Not amazing at catching crosses
– SAVES ALL PENALTIES pic.twitter.com/SBkYM3Dim1

Must have changed my mind about 10 times in this match between wanting to throw Simon Mignolet on a bonfire and wanting to neck him.
