Liverpool Targeting Move For Top Serie A Left-back Who Is Out Of Contract Next Summer

While Liverpool seem to struggle to win games, even when they dominate the opposition, we are being linked with players to help us out in the defence. This time, it isn’t a centreback that is being named as a player to join us but another left-back, rather surprisingly.

Many would remember Faouzi Ghoulam being one player heavily linked with a move to Anfield, especially when it looked like Alberto Moreno would be leaving us in the summer. However, we kept the Spaniard and even signed Andrew Robertson, who has started well in his Liverpool career.

A report from the Liverpool Echo claims that the 26-year-old Algerian would be a free agent in the summer after he refused to sign a new contract with Serie A powerhouse Napoli. In a rather surprising move, where Napoli are leading in the Serie A ahead of Juventus, an agent claimed that if Ghoulam wanted a new deal, it would have been complete.

Mario Giuffredi, who also represents Ghoulam’s team-mate Mino Rui, stated on Radio Crc,# if Ghoulam “wanted to renew, he’d already have done it”.

Ghoulam has been one of the brightest players in the Serie A and is possibly one of the best attacking full-backs in Italy too. It comes as a bit of a surprise seeing him being linked with a move away, especially after the amazing start Napoli have had this season.

Looking ahead, we already have a couple of left-backs in the side and it seems a little unlikely that we would be looking to sign another one, unless there is a major turnaround from Jurgen Klopp on either Moreno or Robertson.

That seems unlikely as Klopp continues playing Moreno, who even started in the 1-1 draw against Spartak Moscow. Robertson has also done well since moving from Hull City and should provide a lot of competition to Moreno this season.

Nevertheless, Ghoulam would be an upgrade on the duo that we have and if we can sign him for free, that would be a great move for our attack and even for our defence.

Ghoulam does have the traits to be one of the best players in the Premier League too and it wouldn’t be a surprise if a number of other clubs look to sign him up before the start of next season.
