Liverpool produced another frustrating display, this time away from home, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Spartak Moscow.
We were in the driving seat for most of the game and for the first time this season, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Philippe Coutinho started a game together. However, even after dominating the early exchanges, we gave away a debatable free-kick which Spartak took advantage of.
Loris Karius should have done better in trying to keep the strike out but Fernando made no mistake with his chance in the 23rd minute. We did hit back immediately with Coutinho finishing off a brilliant one-two with Mane and bringing us level in the game.
The onslaught started then and we had numerous chances to kill the game off. Mane, Salah and even substitute Daniel Sturridge were guilty of missing guilt-edged chances and we were left to rue just how we didn’t finish the game with three points.
While defensively we didn’t have much to do, it is another kick in the teeth as more questions are being asked about us. Jurgen Klopp looked extremely angry at the end of the game and even though we didn’t get a couple of clear cut penalties, we did more than enough to have scored at least 5 goals against the Russian side.
Liverpool still sit in second place in the Champions League group with Sevilla leading but the next game against Maribor is a must win if we have any hopes of making it to the knockout round.
It’s safe to say that the fans were a little upset with the result and here are some of the reactions to another disappointing night of football.
I’d be more worried if we weren’t creating chances. If we keep playing like we did last night the goals will eventually start going in.#LFC

Karius wasn’t great last night, hasn’t been great for LFC, I don’t see how he turns it around woth our fans screaming at him

I was really surprised with the meltdown yesterday night after @LFC Draw. It was a good performance. Cut the team some slack FFS! #LFC

The amount of time Moscow players spent “injured” last night we should still be playing stoppage time now…… it’d still be 1-1 like!

Absolutely love Firmino but he’s not clinical enough to be leading the attack. He’d be much better playing behind an out and out striker.

Liverpool have managed just 6 goals from 121 shots in their last 6 games, winning just 1 of these games (ESPN) #LFC

Philippe Coutinho’s goal tonight was our 200th goal since Klopp became Liverpool manager. #LFC pic.twitter.com/5M4Cv6foQN

One thing I’ll say about this Liverpool team is that when they eventually click, they will dish out some severe beatings this season #LFC

It’s so frustrating, knowing that we (could’ve/should’ve) beaten Watford, Sevilla, Burnley, Leicester (cup) and now Spartak.
It’ll click.

You can’t blame Klopp for the tactical setup that created enough chances to easily win the game. A few players so wasteful.

So the game our defence finally gets its act together our attack decides to takes the night off #NiceOne #LFC

I know I said a draw in Russia wouldn’t be bad. But they were shite & we are such a fuckin frustrating team. Very disappointing. #LFC
