Serie A Giants’ Chief Executive Reveals Failed Bid For Liverpool Star – Says The Reds Held Firm

Emre Can’s protracted move to Juventus could be coming to an end with the club’s chief executive opening up about a failed bid for the 23-year-old German in the summer.

The former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder has not signed a new deal with us, which is a problem, given that he is a free agent at the of the season, and has been linked with the Italian champions as he looks likely to move on a free transfer.

He isn’t signing a new deal with us is due to the inclusion of a “release clause”. We do not want to include such a clause while Can wants one in his contract. That could be in response to our stance regarding Philippe Coutinho’s failed move to Barcelona.

We held firm by not letting the 25-year-old Brazilian leave the side even after the Catalan club put in multiple bids for our star player.

Now, Beppe Marotta, the Juventus chief executive was speaking to the Premium Sport and his quotes were published by the Liverpool Echo.

The Juve man added that they are not looking to add big name signings in the winter window and that the club is happy with the squad that they have.

“We don’t think we are going to make a big signing in January.

“Our team is absolutely competitive and we have some very interesting midfielders like [Rodrigo] Bentancur who has already showed his qualities.”

The chief executive further added that we aren’t going to sell Can in January and the club did bid for him in the summer.

“We have faith in this team and in these lads. As for Emre Can I don’t think Liverpool will sell him in January.

“We made an offer for him in the summer but the Reds didn’t sell him so I don’t think they’ll change their mind in the middle of the season.”

Can’s Future Still Up In The Air

Even though Marotta has stated that they won’t be signing him in the winter window, it still leaves the door open for Can to leave in the summer on a free transfer.

The German, who did score one of the best Premier League goals last season, hasn’t been at his best for us since the start of the new campaign. Can’s best display came in the home win over Hoffenheim as we qualified for the Champions League but there is a lot more the German should offer us.

Things haven’t looked all that great for us and with the draw at Newcastle, we lie 7th in the table – certainly not where Can or the team would have wanted to be.

Should we not be in a position to win trophies or finish in the top four, Can could leave for free and going to Juve would easily make him a champion.
