Liverpool’s pull as a top Premier League destination has been proved once again as Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Adrian Rabiot has proclaimed his desire to play in the Premier League with Liverpool.
The French midfielder was quoted by The Mirror as having revealed his desire to experience top football outside Ligue1.
“I think I would like to experience something else [outside Ligue 1]
I would love to play in the Premier League, not necessarily one club in particular, even though I was very fond of Liverpool when I was young.”
Rabiot is one of the top players of PSG and has been improving with every passing season. No wonder then that he has been linked with top European clubs. From the Premier League, notably, it was Tottenham Hotspur who were thought to be the most interested party.
A couple of seasons ago, Spurs tried to sign him after learning of his availability. Even this summer, there were certain sections of media linking the stylish French midfielder with a move to the North London outfit. However, it now looks like Liverpool could be his destination in England, after all!
The French international made his senior club debut for PSG in 2012 and has made over 160 appearances so far, scoring 19 goals overall. The 22-year-old is not new to England, having spent a part of his youth career at Manchester City before joining PSG.
The midfielder has featured in every game for PSG this season. With Neymar joining the club in a world record deal from Barcelona, the French side are under pressure to make room in their squad for Financial Fair Play reasons.
Will that force them to part with Rabiot? Hardly so, considering the importance of the midfielder in manager Unai Emery’s plans. However, the player, for long has been angling for regular action and that could be the clinching factor for the Reds.
Where does he fit at Anfield? His intelligent movement and wonderful dribbling techniques coupled with a good tacking ability make Rabiot a quintessential Jurgen Klopp player. The German tactician is blessed with numerous options in the middle of the park but with question marks hovering around the future of Emre Can, he could turn to Rabiot as an answer.
The French midfielder is a great option to have in our squad as a defensive midfielder and I believe that the club should start testing the waters with a bid in the winter window.
