Liverpool Target And Klopp’s Former Protege Refuses New Deal At His Club – Chelsea In The Race Too

This is one player who has been continuously linked with Anfield ever since Jurgen Klopp took charge. From the time the German came to Liverpool, the links to his former Borussia Dortmund attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have only intensified.

The Gabon striker is back in the news with latest reports indicating that the attacker is ready to reject the new terms offered by his club. These reports from Italian outlet Calciomercato talk of the 28-year-old’s intention to refuse the contract and continue his career elsewhere.

Will that be at Anfield? Klopp is an unabashed admirer of his former protégé, who has been a goal machine – quite literally – for the Bundesliga side. He scored 31 goals in the German Bundesliga last season and 25 the season before.

Aubameyang’s thirst for goals is second to none and the only reason he is not compared with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi or even Harry Kane is due to the fact that Bundesliga is primarily a two or three-team League.

However, do not count him out because the strike-rate of Aubameyang is phenomenal even for a weaker League. His pace and athleticism differentiate him from the rest in Germany and the same should be his assets if he makes a move to England.

He would be in the mould of Luis Suarez who we have failed to replace, after his move to Barcelona. Auba’s experience in the Champions League would be another favorable asset for Klopp.

If he were to become available next summer, Aubameyang will not be short of suitors. His former club AC Milan has been reported as an interested party, with the player too having expressed his thought of ‘having unfinished business’ at the San Siro. So Liverpool won’t be alone in their pursuit.

Having said that, Klopp can still use his previous ties with Dortmund to push for a move. If he does, this is one signing that the fans would take anytime any day!
