Former Liverpool Star Believes Reds Should Sell Star Man For £120million And Re-build The Defence

There have been many players and pundits who have shared their thoughts on the Philippe Coutinho drama that unfolded in the summer. The 25-year-old Brazilian wanted to join Barcelona but Liverpool held firm and did not allow the midfielder to move.

That hasn’t spurned the La Liga side and there have been reports that the club is willing to come back to sign him in the winter window.

Liverpool might be struggling to get wins in the last month or two but Coutinho has been one of the few players that seems to be in form. The 25-year-old has been incredible since getting his place back in the starting line-up but one former Red believes that the Brazilian should be sold.

Charlie Adam might not have had the greatest of careers at Anfield after he joined us from Blackpool but the Stoke City midfielder believes the Coutinho funds can be used to sign a complete new defence and a goalkeeper too.

“This is what happens when you’ve got one of the best players in the world,” Adam told talkSPORT. “It’s going to just see how long the Liverpool owners stay strong – can they afford to not let him go in the January window?

“I think if they’re nowhere near winning the league, he will go. The money they’re talking about – £120million – that’s a rebuilding job!

“That will buy them the four defenders and a goalkeeper they probably need.”

Tough Time Ahead For The Reds

Things don’t look too good for us in terms of defence as we are conceding sloppy goals and the fact that we did not sign another central defender in the summer window will come back to haunt us.

The next game that we play is against Manchester United and that will be a huge test for our defence given that Romelu Lukaku has been in great form. The pairing of Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip will struggle to contain him.

The lack of a quality defence could have been masked by a good goalkeeper but Simon Mignolet has had his flutters while Loris Karius does not look all that confident between the sticks.

Losing Coutinho, who is one of the best players in the Premier League, would be huge but Adam does make sense in the fact that we cannot keep Barcelona off our backs for long.

Maybe it is logical to sell the former Inter Milan man for a huge fee and rebuild our entire defence but is it worth losing someone who can truly be world class in a couple of years or so?
