Ben Woodburn

Liverpool teenage midfielder Ben Woodburn is reported to have sparked an interest from Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona. According to reports from the Spanish media outlet Don Balon, the midfielder is being watched by the Catalan giants with them having an intention of making a move.

Barcelona has been a constant name at Anfield this summer, with them having circled the club multiple times for the signature of Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian midfielder was interested in a move to the Camp Nou but the Reds held firm in holding on to their playmaker.

The Catalans are expected to come back in the winter transfer window for snatching Coutinho and it is now being reported that Barcelona would be interested in a double swoop for both Woodburn and Coutinho.

However, it is also expected that the Reds would hold firm in any negotiation for playmaker Coutinho. And, it is also being reported that Liverpool will not entertain any bids for talented Welsh midfielder Woodburn as well.

The youngster who recently turned 18, is one of the hottest prospects in entire England, having grabbed eyeballs right from the first minute of his debut. In fact, he became Liverpool’s youngest goalscorer in November last year. Woodburn came on as a second-half substitute against Leeds United in the League Cup tie and he repaid Jurgen Klopp’s faith by taking just 14 minutes to score his first goal.

That made him the youngest scorer for Liverpool by eclipsing Michael Owen’s previous record, with a goal that was worthy of beating the record.

That was just the beginning because Woodburn moved from strength to strength from there on. He made his debut for Wales in the World Cup qualifiers and grabbed a goal and an assist, further cementing his position as one of the most talented young midfielders around.

The youngster is already likened to his international teammate Gareth Bale – which I personally think is a little too premature and putting undue pressure on the teenager.

Let’s hope that neither the lofty comparisons nor the links to top clubs sway his head and that Woodburn continues to develop and keeps performing consistently.
