Liverpool are looking to blood another youngster to bolster their Academy which is now being run by club legend Steven Gerrard. The player in discussion is 17-year-old Dutch defender Perr Schuurs who is earning rave reviews in his homeland.

The talented youngster is already the captain for Fortuna Sittard in the Dutch second division and is rated very high for his leadership skills. The towering 6ft 3in Dutch youngster was invited to Liverpool for a training stint earlier this year.

It is being reported by the Daily Mail that the Reds have been impressed with his progress during his training stint and are interested in making a move for the youngster. However, the report adds that Liverpool are not the only side that interested in the player as a lot of European clubs are bidding for his services.

From his homeland, Ajax and PSV Eindhoven are interested in snatching the talented defender away while there is interest from Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City too. Interestingly, all these sides including Liverpool, have a very strong Academy, which means it could be a very tough tussle for capturing the player.

Liverpool are reported to have watched him again last week when Schuurs played for Holland Under 19s against Hungary and Slovenia. The teenager has been advised to stay in Holland and further move forward in his career but any interest from Liverpool could be difficult to resist.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is still interested in signing Virgil van Dijk from Southampton who almost joined the club in the summer. The subsequent windows will see Klopp going back for the signature of Van Dijk.

There is confidence in the Anfield circles that Southampton can be persuaded to do business in the winter transfer window or at least next summer. The pursuit of Van Dijk, it is being reported, will not have an impact on the signing of Schuurs.

The young Dutch defender is being mentioned as the one for the future while the search for an experienced player for the back four is still on. Maybe, Klopp will be able to pair the Dutch duo!
