Tottenham and Liverpool will both come into the match with positive results after having travelled the continent midweek. The Reds ventured to Slovenia to take on the reigning national champions NK Maribor where they decimated them in a 0-7 win. Tottenham, on the other hand, flew to the Spanish capital and restricted the defending European champions Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw.
Although, question marks do still remain over the performances of the two sides in the Premier League, it will be interesting to see which club comes out on top at Wembley on Sunday.
Sadio Mane will once again be absent for the Reds owing to an injury. Adam Lallana is expected to make a comeback and he could grace the bench on Sunday. The only other injury concern for Jurgen Klopp comes in the form of Nathaniel Clyne, who remains sidelined due to a long-term injury.
Mignolet has been quite wasteful in goal but the season has a long way to go and he can certainly try to do better against Spurs.
The young Alexander-Arnold should start at right-back. He did make a shaky start but should be more confident this time around.
Lovren’s struggles have been quite the talking point as far as the Reds are concerned. He hasn’t been in the best of form since the beginning but Klopp is likely to still deploy him in that area due to lack of options.
Joining him will be Matip. The player has proven to be the only strong link in Liverpool’s defence and the Reds will be counting on him to continue with his form.
Defensive problems continue for Liverpool but Moreno has marginally improved in the left-back position.
Can’s performances have not been up to the mark but against a prolific Spurs midfield, the player will be important in guarding the defence.
Henderson has received a lot of flak for his display in the previous few matches but he will be looking to improve.
The player seemed to make an impact against Manchester United as well as Maribor, and he is likely to assume his usual role for Liverpool.
With Mane out, Coutinho will be deployed in the same position he played in for major parts of the previous season. He has been strong and the Brazilian will be key against Spurs.
Salah’s finishing continues to be an issue. It was quite obvious against Manchester United but the player is prolific when it comes to relentlessly creating chances.
Firmino will take up his usual role for Liverpool and it will be quite important for him to penetrate a resilient Spurs defence.
