Liverpool Eager To Go Back For AS Roma’s £22m Defender In January

If reports are to be believed, Liverpool are looking to add to their Brazilian contingent by adding more players in the January transfer window. Gazzamercato (h/t Daily Mail) claim that the Reds are looking to add to their options in January by going for some flair.

One of the names being mentioned is that of the 23-year-old Emerson Palmieri. The left-back is currently plying his trade with AS Roma in the Serie A and is catching everyone’s attention with his exploits.

According to news from Gazzamercata (h/t Daily Mail), the youngster could have already been a Liverpool player had he not sustained an ACL injury in May.

The former Santos player is yet to feature for Roma this season because of the injury. However, that has not put off Jurgen Klopp, who is still interested in the left-back.

Liverpool have already leaked 16 goals this season from just nine matches and are struggling to mount a challenge for the top-four. With increasing concerns about the back four, Klopp wants to make the requisite changes in January to address these problems.

Reports from Italy suggest that Klopp could return for the defender in the winter window with a £22m bid, to strengthen his options.

Emerson is still not due for the first-team action until next month but will be offered a considerable increase in his current salary to make the switch to Anfield. The same report also indicates that Liverpool may offer him a deal until 2022.

But, is he really the need of the hour at Anfield? Left-back was a problem area before the start of the season but with the arrival of Andy Robertson from Hull and the upsurge in form of Alberto Moreno has improved the options for our German tactician.

If anything, Klopp needs a central defender who can be a lynchpin for his back-four and/or a goalkeeper. There is nothing wrong in improving your options but do that only after addressing the core problems. And, for now, the left-back area is not a core problem.
