Liverpool got back to winning ways in the Premier League and for just one game, we can all be happy about the result. After the chastening at Wembley, Dejan Lovren was back in the starting XI, well at least before the start of the game.

The Croatian was named in the initial line-up but was apparently injured before the start and was replaced by Ragnar Klavan. Nevertheless, we struggled to break down a good Huddersfield side and even though we won a penalty late in the first half, Mohamed Salah saw his shot saved by the opposition keeper.

It was Daniel Sturridge who got the breakthrough five minutes after the start of the second-half before goals from Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum sealed the win for us.

We next prepare for a Champions League clash against Maribor at home and hopefully, we should pick up the points in that game too.

There were a few players that actually did very well and here are the player ratings from the win at Anfield.

Liverpool Player Ratings

Simon Mignolet – 7/10

Our goalkeeper didn’t have to do much in the game and thankfully, he did not make a mistake either.

Joe Gomez – 7.5/10

Gomez was possibly our best defender in the game as he ensured nothing went past him down the right. It would have been better seeing him in the heart of the defence but this was a solid showing.

Ragnar Klavan – 7/10

The Estonian might have come into the game as a cover but he did a really good job without making any blunders.

Joel Matip – 7.5/10

Matip had a solid showing after a long time and was great in the opposition box as well. The former Schalke man had a couple of headers to score a goal but it did not matter in the end.

Alberto Moreno – 7/10

Moreno might be known for his attacking instinct but he did have a couple of great challenges in defence too. His final delivery tonight was not up to the mark but again, no major mistakes from any of the back five.

Georginio Wijnaldum – 7.5/10

The Dutch midfielder scored a sumptuous goal to ensure three points but he has to be more creative and be the player to link up with our front three when Henderson and Milner play.

Jordan Henderson – 6.5/10

This was another Henderson-like performance – nothing too flashy, not much in terms of creativity, just a pendulum in the heart of midfield.

James Milner – 7/10

It was a surprise seeing Milner in the team again and it was another surprise when he did not take the spot kick which was eventually saved. The Englishman was a part of the midfield that didn’t create much in the first half and he should have done better.

Mohamed Salah – 8/10

Even though Salah missed the penalty, he was our best player by a mile and he finally got his reward by setting up Wijnaldum for the third goal.

Daniel Sturridge – 7.5/10

It was a relief seeing Sturridge score after a poor first half from the entire team. The goal was a predatory finish from our striker as he calmly lofted the ball above the rushing Lossl to ensure we opened the scoring.

Roberto Firmino – 7.5/10

Firmino finally got a goal, this time from a corner and via a header. The Brazilian still does not look like the player from last season but this was a decent enough showing.

Substitutes

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6.5/10

There seems to be some sort of deal between Ox and Jurgen Klopp as the Englishman is always brought on to the pitch after the hour mark. The Ox didn’t really do much and maybe he should get a chance against Maribor in the Champions League.

Emre Can – 6.5/10

The German tank came on and provided us with a lot of energy, something that should have been present when the match started.

Dominic Solanke – 6/10

Solanke was brought on with 10 minutes left in the game and he did try to score but was thwarted by the Huddersfield defence.
