In a massive turn of an event, Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain have made Philippe Coutinho their priority target for next summer and French TV channel TF1 has even claimed that the club have already contacted Coutinho’s agent.
The Brazilian was firmly linked with a move away from Anfield this summer and made his intentions of leaving Liverpool quite clear by handing in an official transfer request.
We, however, rejected his plea and Coutinho saw at least three bids from Barcelona get rejected by the Reds. Coutinho indeed stayed put, yet there lies uncertainty over his future at the club. To add further misery to Liverpool’s fate, Barcelona recently claimed they will return for Coutinho in the January window.
The Catalonians though, will now be facing an uphill task given that Paris Saint-Germain have entered the fray as well. It is certainly hard to see Coutinho leaving Liverpool in January, given that Liverpool will only have a month to get a replacement. Hence we can certainly expect a head-to-head bidding war next summer.
TF1 has further claimed that PSG’s sporting director Antero Henrique has already met with Coutinho’s agent Kia Joorabchian on Monday and given that Coutinho shares a close relationship with Neymar, a move could well and truly be on the cards. Furthermore, it is also being reported that Neymar himself requested PSG to make a mega move for Coutinho and it now remains to be seen what lies next in store for all the parties involved.
Liverpool cannot really hold Coutinho for long given that both Barcelona and PSG are well capable of offering a massive capital. Furthermore, the Mirror claims that Liverpool have promised Klopp that all of the £130m from Coutinho’s sale will be invested in getting better players, with Virgil van Dijk still being the priority.
Despite PSG’s financial might, it is baffling to see them get linked with such big money moves. FFP would be a major stumble if PSG are to get their targets. They have Mbappe playing for them and should they convert his loan stay into a permanent one, it would be impossible for them to sign Coutinho as the loan deal for the French striker has a buy option €155m.
