Match Report: West Ham United 1-4 Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp’s men were spot on in adding pressure to Slaven Bilic’s troubles as a brace from Mohamed Salah and a goal apiece from Joel Matip and Oxlade Chamberlain gave Liverpool a comfortable 4-1 win over the Hammers.

West Ham started off brightly and the deadlock could have been broken in the 9th minute after André Ayew saw himself get into a one-on-one against Simon Mignolet, only to hit the frame of the post. Liverpool conceded a corner in the 21st minute and West Ham decided to bring all three of their center-backs up for the kick. The decision, however, fired back as the Reds launched a fiery counter with Salah making no mistake in giving his side a lead.

Just a couple of minutes after the first goal, Liverpool added another through Joel Matip after a deflection from Mark Noble forced Joe Hart into making a point-blank save, giving the ball to Matip in the process. West Ham pulled one back through Manuel Lanzini in the 55th minute, but Chamberlain restored Liverpool’s two-goal lead just a minute later.

Heading into the final 15 minutes, Liverpool had the complete reigns of the game. Mohamed Salah eventually added a 4th with a brilliant strike and came close to completing his hat-trick. But his effort was equally matched by Joe Hart. Liverpool enjoyed 52% of possession and managed 15 shots (7 on target) in the process.

“Our counter-attacking was pretty perfect,” Klopp was quoted by BBC as saying.“We had some wonderful play. That’s 3-0, 3-0, 4-1, it’s been a really good week.

“I decided after just one training session to bring Sadio in from the beginning,” Klopp added. “I’ve never done that before, but obviously it was not the worst idea I’ve ever had. Sadio is a naturally fit player, he is a machine.”

With the win, Liverpool now sit 6th on the Premier League log, level on points with Chelsea and Arsenal – with the London clubs yet to play this weekend. Having said that, this is how the Liverpool fans reacted to the victory:
